GAINESVILLE, 28 JAN 2017 (video)
In College athletics Senior Day is the team’s last home game of the season. At some point before or after the game or at halftime, a ceremony is held bidding the team’s seniors farewell, as it is their last game in front of their home fans.
Saturday January 28th the Florida Gators opened the new O’Dome to close the regular season against rival Tennessee Vols, for the first and only home regular-season competition of the year.
This season the Gators were unable to access the facility during an eight-month renovation that transformed the O’Dome into the Exactech Arena at the Stephen C. O’Connell Center. The last competion at our home pool was last year (Jan. 23, 2016) and we have endured without our swimming pool and a tough stretch of 10 consecutive team meets with several hours spent on the road during this season.
Therefore, this exclusive competition at the home natatorium, with the tribunes completely full of Gator’s funs and families, was also the chance for Florida to honor its seven seniors: Jack Blyzinskyj, Mitch D’Arrigo, Alex Dehner, Autumn Finke, Georgia Hohmann, Taylor Katz and Alyssa Yambor-Maul.
It was so nice to be back at home for this very emotional ceremony. I still can’t believe four years have already passed since I started this wonderful experience with the University of Florida and the Gators team.
I cannot find the right words to express my deepest gratitude to Gregg Troy, his outstanding staff, the Academic and Athletic Departments of UF, my teammates, my family and everyone that has contributed to realize the dream of becoming a proud student-athlete of the Florida Gators.
Yes, this is my senior year but I am not finished yet…
IT’S GREAT TO BE A FLORIDA GATOR!
